Setup | Redland Bay

Setup does more than provide seats to sit on. It creates first impressions for visitors and regulars, communicating how much we value our church family and our God.

NOTE: Please do not risk personal injury. Recruit others to help, especially if heavy. Practice safe lifting (bend at the knees, preferably 1 or 2 seats at a time)

Preparing for the service

  • Arrive early enough that you are finished before people start arriving. Ideally that’s by 10am, but definitely no later than 10.15am

  • If the back room isn’t unlocked, ask Joel (or whoever setup music) for access. The back room is where most of our equipment is stored

  • Bring out the welcome trolley to the entrance area

  • Bring out the flags and setup outside, visible from the road

  • Bring out the A-frame and position just outside the main door

  • Use the trolleys to move stacks of chairs to the seating area, and arrange in rows. While we aren’t fixed in how to arrange chairs, factors to bear in mind are:

    • everyone wants to be able to see the front;

    • don’t make the gap between the congregation and the podium and musicians too big;

    • include a space within the seating for parents of babies and toddlers – the kids ministry will have the keys for the bench seat with toys

  • Once you’re setup, catch up with people and make them feel welcome

Preparing for lunches

  • If there’s a lunch happening after church,

    • Ask Joel (or whoever setup music) for access to the cupboard under the stage that stores tables

    • Bring out enough tables (a table sits 6-8 people) plus a couple for serving food from
      [People can bring their seats out after the service to sit at the tables]

Pack up after the service

  • If possible, give at least 30 minutes before starting to pack up chairs so that people don’t feel rushed away from church

  • Bring in the flags from outside. If they are wet and you have time, let them dry off a little under the awning before putting away

  • Bring in the A-frame and return to the back room

  • Make sure the welcome trolley has been packed away, and return to the back room

Please ensure our equipment is neatly stacked and not near the doorway as the students have trouble moving out large instruments from the back area.

Pack up after lunch

  • Ensure tables (and seats if necessary) are wiped down before being put away
